This would be a very strong historical research paper, however as far as a formal analysis assignment goes, I think you have missed the goal of the assignment.

You spend most of the paper talking about historical context and events, which is important for framing an analysis, however not at the expense of discussing formal elements (subject matter, color, line/ texture, and composition) of a work of art.

The assignment was to pick one specific art object and describe it using formal analysis, then interpret it based on the analysis.

Most of the paper should focus on describing the piece using the formal elements and then analyzing/ interpreting the piece based on those formal elements. You may want to refer to the rubric provided for further explanation of those grading points.

I would revisit the focus and organization of your paper, focusing on:

i)                    Describing the formal elements you see in an object: subject matter, color, composition, line/ texture, and then

ii)                   Analyzing the relationship between those elements and how they affect your experience as the viewer. What ideas was the artist trying to convey?

Could you fix those problems and give me a final draft?
