Instructions:

Select one of the options listed below to pursue. Compile a working bibliography of at least five sources (you may use up to three considered in this class), take notes, formulate a thesis, and develop a clear point using evidence from sources to support your point and acknowledge differing perspectives. Effectively integrate sources with original writing to produce a well-developed final draft. Refer to the checklist following the options for a breakdown of the assignment requirements.

In order to be eligible to be graded from 100% a paper has to be a documented essay (with a Works Cited list) that is free of plagiarized material, meets the word count, responds to the specific assignment instructions, and is submitted by the deadline through the Canvas assignment.

Rhetorical Situation:

Purpose: The purpose is to effectively integrate source material with original writing to produce a classical argument or analysis.

Audience: a general audience of readers with varying backgrounds and beliefs, some of whom will agree with your thesis, some of whom will not; your task is to convince the reader of the validity of your argument, not to convince the reader to join you in your stance.

Point of view: The essay should be written in third person point of view.

OPTIONS:

  1. Argue in favor of or against the methods of parents of Sasha and of Storm, Kio, and Jazz that growing up in a “gender rich” environment (that does not limit a child’s choice of what to wear, how to play, or how to present oneself to the gender stereotypes that draw lines between what is suitable for boys and what is suitable for girls) is a positive experience for children. (ARGUMENT)
