RES 153 Week 2 Discussion Question

Discussion questions are based on the Week 2 readings. Respond to each question then submit to Assignments by midnight Sunday. 

1. There are four measurement levels, two for numeric and two for attribute (nonnumeric) data. The acronym NOIR is the color black in French helps to remember the order of each level of measurement. Attribute: Nominal, Ordinal & Numeric: Interval, Ratio. Cooper & Schindler, Ch. 11, pp. 273-277

Assign the level of measurement to each of the 2012 Olympic Trials variables:

____ Bollier time was 1:56.06
____ Swimming Men's 200m Butterfly
____ Bollier was faster than Phelps
____ Bollier time was 0.36 seconds faster


2. A characteristic of good measurement includes reliability, and internal and external validity. Cooper & Schindler, Ch. 11, pp. 280-286

a. Why is having reliability important? 

b. What is the difference between internal and external validity?

3. Probability Sampling. Four methods include: Simple random, Systematic, Stratified, and Cluster Sampling. When would a particular method(s) be used?

a. All respondents are known. 
b. The respondents are unknown.
c. Collecting samples is hampered by great distances between subsidiaries.
d. Each department in a company should have an equal voice. 

4. Create a Likert scale survey question that would help quantify how a person likes their job. Cooper & Schindler, Ch. 12, pp. p. 299, 301
