Reflection - The Orange
Given the following scenario explain what you might do to negotiate and resolve the situation below:
Two young sisters are sitting at a kitchen table fighting over an orange. Their mother walks in and asks what they're arguing about.
"This is my orange," one sister shouts.
"No, it's mine," the other says," I saw it first."
"She doesn't need it! I do!" the first sister says.
"Shush!" The mother tells them both. She simply cuts the orange in two and gives on half to one daughter and the other half to the other daughter. She's very pleased with this solution until she sees one sister peel her half of the orange and eat the fruit, while the other peels her half, discards the fruit, and walks off with the rind. One sister simply wanted the fruit while the other wanted the rind for baking.
Using your readings this week for reference, what principles, tactics and strategies might have helped to resolve this conflict?
Can you think of unresolved conflicts you have been involved in that might have easily been resolved if only the right questions had been asked? Explain.
Your reflection should be approximately 2-4 paragraphs in length and be written in essay format.
