reflecting issues of diversity

·         FILM REFLECTION PAPER:  

Select a film you have seen reflecting issues of diversity and aging, and you will use the material to write a paper.  A brief synopsis (about a paragraph, focusing on one older adult character) of the film should form the first part of your paper, with the following included next:

1. Themes and issues presented, particularly as they relate to you, your own family experiences and elders you know, and to the course content and readings (text and other references need to be cited in your paper).

2.  Cultural expectations (from the viewpoint of the character) regarding aging behavior as well as similarities and differences to your own ethnic identification (if none, you must explain).  The following list of topics may be helpful to consider: religious beliefs, gender issues, health, aging stereotypes and myths, adjustments to aging, physical and mental status, challenges and/or rewards of aging. 

·         GRADING OF RELECTION PAPER:    

-Introduction provides a brief summary in your own words (i.e., NOT from the film or book jacket )

-Description of main character’s ethnicity and aging status                                          

-Incorporation of topics from above list)                                                                                              

-Writing mechanics: organized, concise, grammar, spelling, references*
