English 3410 Guidelines for Research Paper

1. Select an author and novel from the list located in the course syllabus. 

 Blacker the Berry by Langston Hughes

1. Read the literary work.

 Venacular tradition, ritual grounds, and double consciousness. 

For the Research Paper:

1. Select a topic relevant to the literary work and that focuses on one of the African-American Key Literary Concepts or Themes highlighted in this course.

1. Find two to three relevant scholarly articles from academic sources to support the topic.  These sources can only come from library books or library database sources like JSTOR and MLA Bibliography.  NO OTHER INTERNET SOURCES WILL BE ACCEPTED. MASTERPLOTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AS A SOURCE EITHER.

1. Complete and submit the typed, 6-8 paged research paper on or before the last

      day of class,  Monday, December 1, 2014 by 5:00 p.m.  The research paper should be

      in correct MLA manuscript format, and you should use correct MLA in-text

      citation.  Don’t forget your Works Cited Page.

Note:  Research papers will be evaluated in terms of clarity, organization, grammar, spelling, diction, punctuation, correct use of literary terms, mechanics and form, persuasiveness and sufficiency of supporting details, and adherence to the above guidelines.
