Realism

With Realism we now see a non-idealized portrayal of real life in paintings. Research and discuss the characteristics of Realism painting, utilizing your textbook and library resources for information.

Your discussion should focus on (although not limited to) the following points:

• What the role of the artist was during this time?
• Who or what were the artist's subjects?
• Stylistically, how does Realism differ from what we have seen in the past?
• As a viewer, how do you relate to Realism painting as compared to those of the past?
