Reading Assignments & DB Clarifications
1. Assignment 4 Reading (Blair “Building Safety Culture”) So Remember the key point about the reading assignments is to discuss something that was significant to you about the article. You are welcome to describe a summary of the article (it shows that you read it and probably understand it?), but an in-depth summary is not required. (So i uploaded the article down in the file section to read please)
2. Edit what you write before you post it. Run a grammar and spell check if needed – this does not apply to all students, but many of you have multiple typos and grammatical errors. Even more difficult than spelling errors is that some of your posts are simply difficult to follow and understand. Do your best work on your original post, I am not allowing students to go back and do the assignment over – you must do it right the first time.
3. If you have a little length to your post (which is fine if you prefer to go into some detail), divide your narrative into paragraphs by topic to make it easier for the reader.
4. Your response to another student doesn’t need to be lengthy, but it should be substantial. In other words, you should say something more meaningful than “Nice post” or “I agree.” You need to explain why. So here is my classmate post you need please to respond to it please:

In the article 'Building Safety Culture" by Blair he discusses the importance of having an effective safety culture and different ways to help build and improve the culture. He discusses a couple of different methods to help improve your safety culture and uses the analogy of someone overweight trying to lose weight as a comparison for how the methods are simple but not to get simple confused with easy. For someone trying to lose weight the concept is simple, burn more calories than you consume, but the process of doing so is not so easy.
The strategy that Blair discussed that stuck out to me as most important was that of having a 100% reporting culture. Without having an effective reporting culture it is difficult to have an effective safety program. Without the employees being involved in the reporting of near misses and incidents it is hard to know where you need to focus your efforts. After all, the employees are the ones out there doing the work and know first hand where the issues are.One of the challenges of having an effective reporting culture is employees fear discipline. When employees fear they will be blamed and punished from reporting it is difficult to get them to participate in reporting. For this reason Blair says it is important to emphasize a reporting culture over a punishing culture in order to encourage reporting.
