Select two books for each age group, Birth to Age5/Pre-K and K to Age 8/Grade 3. Choose one book for each age group that is an award winning book (Caldecott Medal or Newbery Medal) and one that is not.
For each book, write a 250-500-word critique that includes the following:
- Appropriateness for selected age group along with the appropriateness of content, pictures, and genres for the age group. Provide examples.
- Summary of the book including the genre, the major elements of story (characters, setting, plot, theme, etc.)
OR
For informational text, highlight the important features of the text.
- Explanation of the author’s contributions to the fields of children’s education and literature.
- Explanation of the strengths and weaknesses of each book for children’s educational needs.
In addition, write a 100-250-word comparison of the award-winning books and the ones that were not.
