Select two books for each age group, Birth to Age5/Pre-K and K to Age 8/Grade 3. Choose one book for each age group that is an award winning book (Caldecott Medal or Newbery Medal) and one that is not.

For each book, write a 250-500-word critique that includes the following:

1. Appropriateness for selected age group along with the appropriateness of content, pictures, and genres for the age group. Provide examples.
2. Summary of the book including the genre, the major elements of story (characters, setting, plot, theme, etc.)

OR

For informational text, highlight the important features of the text.

1. Explanation of the author’s contributions to the fields of children’s education and literature.
2. Explanation of the strengths and weaknesses of each book for children’s educational needs.

In addition, write a 100-250-word comparison of the award-winning books and the ones that were not.
