Yes, the discussion of gender, race, society, etc. as regards to art is a rather BIG discussion.  Perhaps, too big for this course.

But it's one that should at least be considered, such as you have done.  I would like to think of race and gender and art, not it terms of why weren't people other than the white majority allowed to make art, and why weren't women allowed to make art because there are plenty of "reasons" that were made throughout history to defend these ridiculous ideologies, but rather, I would like to think of race and gender and art in terms of all those voices that were never allowed to speak up and out, all those voices that we were not allowed to hear, all those narratives and perspectives that we will never be privileged to read and experience.

Our ideas and thoughts about the world have been shaped by a very few, imagine than, what our ideas and thoughts about the world would be had all those nonwhite and female artists had been allowed to speak their truths via their arts!

Ideas? Thoughts?
