Please Read Instructions First:   This assignment for discussions questions "does not" require APA style.  I have to post to discussion board for an online class.  I attached an "example format for discussion questions" so you can see how the discussions questions should be formatted and answered.  All work should be original with no plagiarism and in proper English grammar.  The responses should include answering the main discussion questions, fully, including proper cites as well.  If you use citations, I should be able to look it up online to find where you got it from.  (USE ALL AMERICAN PUBLICATIONS, CITATIONS AND RESOURCES FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT!)  The professor requires that the questions be restated and then answered for the discussion questionsI highlighted the questions in "red, bold, italic and underlined" so you would know exactly which ones to restate and answer.  If this is not done, it is his option to deduct formatting points and I could get a "0" for the work.  The more in-depth the information is, the better, as long as you fully answer each set of discussions questions.  Discussion Questions Set 1 should be about two pages including restating the questions.  Discussion Questions Set 2 should be about two pages including restating the questions.

 

Discussion Questions Set 1 "Labor Unions" Please respond to the following:

 

1.  Go to the United States Department of Labor and read the section titled “Employment Rights: Who has Them and Who Enforces Them”. Next, evaluate the intended effectiveness of The Americans with Disabilities Act and The Rehabilitation Act of 1973. 

 

  • Determine how these laws affect human resource (HR) management.  Speculate what the impact of the Act will be in 10 years. Support your position.

2.  Use the Internet to research the role of unions in the United States compared to three other countries.  Next, examine how the role of unions in other countries differs from the role of unions in the United States. 

 

  • Provide examples of three countries and how unions operate in those countries in regard to HR management.

3.  Let's begin our discussions this week regarding Employment Rights with defining a couple of key terms:

 

  • What is meant by "at will" employment?
  • What is meant by "right to work?"
  • What is the difference between an implied and expressed contract as it applies to employment? examples?

  • Provide an example of a company that has done a total “turnaround”.  Determine if the turnaround has been effective and improved its profitability.

2.  Examine changes and developments that are currently taking place in the field of HR management. 

 

  • Predict two changes and developments that are likely to occur in this field in the next 10 years.

3.  If you would study the history of HR management you would discover that HR, as a profession, is relatively new.  No so many years ago, HR was referred to as "personnel" and it consisted primarily of transactional work and record keeping.  Rush forward till today and as you know HR is in a constant state of evolution.  When you look at answering the second part of this discussion forum for this week, consider such factors as technology, global economy and a global work force.
