Children’s television is dangerous thus should be controlled

The argument that television watching is passive and a low-level intellectual activity, which consequently hinders brain development, is a lie. The fact that children are watching television does not turn them into zombies. As they do so they are learning. They learn important yet complex structures of meaning and at the same time develop capacities for thinking and judgment which form a necessary part of the process of socialization. Indeed, what they learn from the television does not enter and remain in their brains as self-contained and un- admirable body of knowledge. Hence television learning is an integral part of complex communication situation and should not be associated with passivity. Therefore, I am of the opinion that the desire to cut off children from watching television is a form of hostility to children. Therefore, the condemnation of television is a mere ritual without a real force.
