The research paper is your opportunity to explore in-depth a topic of interest to you. 

Pick a topic pertinent to Social Psychology that you feel passionate about and find intellectually intriguing. The more interested you are in the topic, the more you will enjoy and succeed in writing your paper. Take a position on your topic and argue for it passionately.

In approaching your topic, make sure you keep it focused on something particular (e.g., gang violence in rural Maine). Begin with a general overview, the nature of the problem and a review of the literature, a section applying one or two of the sociological theories, then conclude with your own summary/opinion. This paper should be roughly 12 pages (total) in length and include at least five academic citations in addition to the textbook (Wikipedia is not an academic resource). Include a cover page with title, an abstract, and bibliography with you paper. (these count towards your 12 pages). Please use APA format. Double-space and use 12pt font.

Avoid plagiarism. If you quote a sentence or more from a source you must use quotations and the citation of where you got it. Plagiarized papers will receive a zero. Write in your own words, in a way you would normally, clearly, speak to a friend or peer. You might want to use examples to illustrate your points (from your personal experience, others you know, or from case studies in the literature).

You will be graded on organization, depth, clarity, and general enthusiasm. Be sure to spell-check and read over your work before you pass it in
