Please spend the next few days finding a topic related to development that you feel will make a good independent project. Find at least 3 references (news items, articles, books, etc.) that you will use in your background research. Write up a one page justification of why this topic is relevant to you and others. You don't need to solve any problem yet, just choose a topic that has relevant stakeholders (i.e. people who stand to gain or lose something). Try and identify who these stakeholders are, and what is at stake. Don't forget that the goal of this project is to help you in your professional development, so please spend plenty of time thinking about something that you can commit to over the course of the rest of this course.
