PSY 369 Week 1 Assignment 2: Understanding Correlations

For each of the correlation findings below, describe in a paper of 250-500 words whether you think the correlation is positive or negative, and give a plausible explanation.

1. Finding 1: Studies have shown that the longer people are married the more similar their political and social views become. Is this a positive or negative correlation? Provide an explanation.
2. Finding 2: Studies have shown that the longer children had lived in an orphanage the lower their IQ scores are. Is this a positive or negative correlation? Provide an explanation.
3. Finding 3: Studies have shown that in large American cities, there is a relationship between the number of violent crimes and the number of stores that sell pornography depicting violence. Is this a positive or negative correlation? Provide an explanation.
