Focus of the Final Paper

The journey of adulthood is a tremendous experience.

For the Final Paper, reflect on your learnings from the past five weeks, and discuss the collective changes that we experience from early adulthood to midlife, from midlife to late adulthood, and from late adulthood to our final days of life. For each stages of adult development, discuss the following:

1)     Theories of Adult Development

·         Middle Adulthood theories

·         Late Adulthood theories

2)     Developmental Changes

·         Physical Development (early, middle, late adulthood)

·         Cognitive Development (early, middle, late adulthood)

·         Social Development (early, middle, late adulthood)

·         Emotional Development (early, middle, late adulthood)

3)     Death and Dying

·         Describe the experiences we have toward the end of the life cycle

·         Analyze the lifespan perspectives on death and dying

·         Describe the influences on life expectancy

4)     Normal vs. Pathological Aging

·         What preventive measures can we take to age ‘normally’?

·         What risky behaviors should we avoid?

5)     Conclusion: Implications for the Future

The Final Paper should build upon the concepts learned in Weeks One through Five, and should be eight- to- ten pages in length. Students must use at least five sources to support their analysis.

Writing the Final Paper

The Final Paper:

1.      Must be eight to ten double-spaced pages in length, and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

2.      Must include a title page with the following:

a.       Title of paper

b.      Student’s name

c.       Course name and number

d.      Instructor’s name

e.       Date submitted

3.      Must begin with an introductory paragraph that has a succinct thesis statement.

4.      Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought.

5.      Must end with a conclusion that reaffirms your thesis.

6.      Must use at least five scholarly sources, including a minimum of two from the Ashford Online Library.

7.      Must document all sources in APA style, as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

8.    Must include a separate reference page, formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing
