Proposal Assignment
-Have a clear claim that is a call for action in response to a problem—Your proposal has to center around a claim that clearly aligns you in your stance and what action you think should be taken.
-Clearly define the problem—Before encouraging your audience to take some action to solve the problem, you have to provide evidence that it happens, describe who/what it affects, and prove that it is a negative thing before telling your audience what they should do.
-Show how your proposal will solve the problem—The proposal needs to have a goal. Show the audience how your ideas will fix the issue at hand and make things better for the future. Make it clear how/why your proposal will fix things.
-Use evidence to support yourself—Draw from your experience and knowledge of your topic. It’ll help if you already know about your topic, but if you need to read up on the situation, you can. I won’t need a works cited page, but please do make it clear in your text what isn’t your own idea (use language like “According to an article…”)
-Make proper use of logos, pathos, and ethos—You will need to determine if, how, and when to use logical, emotional, and ethical appeals to bolster your argument.
-Be feasible and applicable, yet not limited by reality—The proposal has to have some real-world applicability, but you are not completely tied down by reality. You can write as if you have some sway in how things work, not just as if you are a student in a Composition class.
-Consider counterarguments—Not everyone will (or should) agree with your proposal. Make sure to take that into consideration and consider those other points of view while emphasizing why your suggestions are preferable.
