Prompt 2
Some of Theresa’s relatives have developed type 2 diabetes by the time they are in their 50s. Theresa is determined that this will not happen to her, so she has always avoided sweets and kept her carbohydrate intake low. She eats mostly meats, cheese, fruits, and vegetables, and she consumes only small amounts of bread, tortillas, rice, and baked goods. She assumed that this way of eating would help her maintain a healthy weight, but she is now almost 40 and her weight has gradually crept up 45 lbs in the last 10 years.
- Why do you think Theresa has gradually gained weight?
- What changes could Theresa make to overturn her gradual weight gain as well as decrease her risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
