Question: Differentiate between coaching and mentoring. Provide an example to support how either of the two was used successfully in your current or past work life

Partial Answer: The article The Difference between Coaching and Mentoring  states The ultimate purpose of either coaching or mentoring is to enhance the knowledge, skills, and abilities of individuals so that they can increase their performance on the task for which they receive coaching or mentoring. Coaching is task and performance driven, while mentoring is development driven and serves as a guide.

At my current employer we have always had a training department to train new and existing employees to do the various jobs within the organization. Last year, the company implemented a coaching department to ensure employees have the skills needed to perform their job successfully. Our mentoring program has been around for 5 years and allows employees volunteer to be a mentor or a mentee.

I do not participate in the mentor program
