Signature Assignment – HRM637
Job Portfolio

Throughout the course you will develop a job portfolio. The portfolio assignment is divided in four sections, one each week, but the final product is truly one document that should flow smoothly across each section. Please keep this in mind as you progress through the assignment. This portfolio can be something of great value to you in your future career.

Write the paper as if you are teaching someone how to develop a job portfolio. Describe each step in the process and detail every decision you make and refer to the theory behind each step. Someone without any HR experience should be able to read your paper and understand the process and use your paper to create their own job portfolio.

Be sure to follow the rubric located below. (Scroll all the way down the page)

Week 1:  Select an organization and a position within that organization to feature in your job portfolio. Conduct a job analysis of the selected position.  Begin by providing the formal definition of job analysis as described in the text.  Briefly describe the organization and the position. Discuss your decision to conduct a job requirements job analysis, or a competency based job analysis, or a combination of both.  Describe the process of collecting information about the selected position including job requirements, competencies, summary of duties, and rewards. Consider any legal issues associated with this position. Include a job description of the selected position in your appendices.

**Week 2:  Develop a recruitment plan for the selected position utilizing the theories discussed in the text.  Discuss recruitment strategies. Evaluate the need for internal recruitment, external recruitment, or both. Discuss searching strategies and consider any legal issues associated with the recruitment for this position. Include the job announcement in your appendices.

Week 3:   Discuss the selection process for the chosen position, providing an analysis of each step in the selection process; e.g., application/resume, in an external selection process, evaluate initial assessment methods and substantive assessment methods; in an internal selection process, evaluate skills inventory peer/self-assessments and testing procedures. Define and discuss a structured vs. non-structured interview process and individual vs. panel interviews. Consider any legal issues associated with the selection process for this position. Include a list of interview questions in your appendices.

Week 4:  Finally, discuss your decision-making process for determining a final match as outlined in the text.  Develop an orientation plan and initial training program for the chosen candidate. Include an outline or agenda for the orientation and a training schedule in your appendices.
