Choose only one of the topics below for this essay exam:

1. Miami’s large immigrant population makes it one of the most diverse cities in the world. Tell a story about yourself or someone you know that shows how diversity makes life better or more interesting here.
    
2. Think of someone who moved to the United States (it could be you) because of problems in their native country. Tell a story to show what problems the person was getting away from.

Remember to follow these guidelines:

• Do a pre-writing activity before you begin to write (you will need to submit this with your essay).  You can use whatever pre-writing technique you are comfortable with.
   
• Write a 5 paragraph essay in response to the given prompt.
• Make sure you focus on a clear thesis statement.
• Remember to include topic sentences to focus your paragraphs, transitions to connect your points and specific details to show, not tell.
• Use WORD.
• Use 12" Times New Roman Font.
• Double space.
• Underline your thesis statement in the introduction paragraph.
• Review the rubric before you begin to write.
