Presentation-The law on Torture

As discussed in our last class, the first definition of torture which we see is contained in the 1984 UNGA Resolution on the Prohibition of Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment or Punishment (soft law) which is replaced by the Convention on the Prohibition of Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment or Punishment (hard law) which goes into effect shortly thereafter...Both the Torture Convention and the UNGA Resolution are promulgated after Filartiga which is decided in 1980...Be sure to read both the UNGA Resolution and the Torture Convention for class...And as previously assigned, make a list of the operative elements of the the definition of "Torture" and submit that to me electronically before class on Tuesday...This writing assignment should not take more than fifteen minutes of your time...
