Week 2 Assignment, Research Paper Proposal
Create a proposal for the Final Research Paper which is due in Week Six. This proposal will help you develop a comprehensive guideline for your Research Paper.
The framework for the paper should include the following:
- A clear thesis statement
- An annotated bibliography for at least 10 scholarly or professional journal articles
- A summary that expresses the overall plan of the paper, including subtitles and topic sentences for each subtitle provided.
Sample Research Paper ideas could include: The politics of urban planning, an analysis of a specific area of urban planning (for example, transportation planning), a comparative analysis of several areas of urban planning (for example, transportation planning vs. housing planning), a historical analysis of urban planning in the United States, or a comparative analysis of urban planning on the international scale. The topics should be substantive and expansive.
The proposal should be between four to five pages in length, not including the title and reference pages. Be sure to follow the APA documentation and writing guidelines when completing this assignment.
Week 3 Assignment, Article Review Paper
Select two professional and/or scholarly journal articles from the Ashford University Library that relate to your Research Paper topic from the Week Two Assignment. Develop a four- to five-page summary of the main points made by the author(s) of each article. You must include an analysis of at least two perspectives/theories with concurring and dissenting reviews of the chosen articles.
Week 4 Assignment, Community Assessment Paper
Prepare an assessment of local economic development programs within your community. To address the key issues related to economic planning, you will need to:
- Describe the types of economic development programs that are being conducted in your community.
- Analyze the actors involved in the economic development programs.
- Explain the short-term and long-term goals of the economic development programs.
- Assess the types of issues (i.e., political, economic) faced by the economic development programs.
Week 5 Assignment, Energy Planning Paper
Develop a paper that focuses on energy planning. In your paper, be sure to:
- Describe four examples of key energy plans.
- Assess the main goals of the energy-planning efforts.
- Detail the actors involved in the energy planning.
- Explain the issues that must be overcome to ensure the effectiveness of the chosen energy plan.
Week 6 Assignment, Research Paper
The final assignment for this course is a research paper. This paper will reflect comprehensive understanding of key concepts that have been discussed during this course. This assignment will provide you with the opportunity to apply related urban planning concepts in an academic paper.
Focus of the Research Paper
The Research Paper will be based on the urban planning topic selected in the Research Paper Proposal assignment from Week Two. Based on your selected urban planning topic, analyze the key issues with the use of exhibits and an appendix.
You must include (but are not limited to) a discussion of the historical background and contemporary issues related to the paper topic. You must also include an evaluation regarding the plausible political issues that urban planners could potentially encounter and the potential consequences that could result from decision making. Be sure to apply key concepts from this course in your Research Paper.
Writing the Research Paper
The Paper:
Must be eight- to ten- double-spaced pages in length (not including the title page, appendix, reference page, and exhibits) and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
- Must include a cover page that includes:
- Name of paper
- Student’s name
- Course name and number
- Instructor’s name
- Date submitted
- Must include an introductory paragraph with a succinct thesis statement.
- Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought.
- Must conclude with a restatement of the thesis and a conclusion paragraph.
- Must include, on the final page, a Reference List that is completed according to APA
