Some countries fought off attempts to form a totalitarian government like France and the United Kingdom. Some countries like Italy and Germany succumbed to Fascist forms of totalitarianism, while the Soviet Union embraced Communism a form of totalitarianism on the opposite side of the political spectrum as Fascism.
