Please choose one of the following questions to answer for this week's assignment. When you respond to your fellow classmates this week, please choose someone who answered a different question than your own. This will help you familiarize yourself with more of the material.
1. The Industrial Revolution brought with it a great deal of new technology, experiences and problems. In your opinion, what was the most significant gain of the period? Why was this more important than others? What was the biggest issue (social, political, economic, etc.) ushered in by the Industrial Revolution? Be sure to explain why you chose this problem
2. The early nineteenth century saw the rise of three powerful ideologies: nationalism, liberalism, and socialism. Which of these do you think had the greatest impact on the events of the first half of the century? Why?
3. Europe erupted into multiple revolutions between 1848 and 1849. As you may expect, some nations were more successful than others. Was this because of how the revolution was handled? Or was it simply not the right time for a particular government to make the changes its people wanted? Choose one of the nations that experienced a revolution in 1848-1849. Do you think the political situation was handled correctly? What could have been done differently to get the government to pay attention to the demands of the population? Could the violence have been avoided?.
