1. Explain the philosophy behind the creation of the Articles of Confederation.  What were some of the problems with our “first Constitution”?  What event specifically triggered the Constitutional Convention?

    

2. Discuss some of the points of contention in the writing of the Constitution.  What various compromises were included in the final document?  What is their impact on our political system today?

    

3. Describe the three methods of Constitutional change.  For each method, give a detailed explanation of how it works and specific examples of important changes that have occurred in this manner.

    

4. Describe the differences between cooperative federalism and dual federalism as well as the four specific forces outlined in lecture that alter the state/national government relationship.  Give specific examples of each force and ways in which the dynamics of federalism changed.
