Read the article in the Chapter Fifteen module called "National Security Strategy 2002." This document is the preamble of a larger doctrine published in the wake of the attacks on 9/11 and it lays down the preamble of the so called Bush Doctrine. The doctrine has four principles, according to President Bush:
- "Make no distinction between terrorists and the nations that harbor them--and hold both to account."
- "Take the fight to the enemy overseas before they can attack us again here at home."
- "Confront threats before they fully materialize."
- "Advance liberty and hope as an alternative to the enemy's ideology of repression and fear."
Are these principle as relevant today as they were then, or perhaps even more relevant than ever? A few countries in the past have accused America of "taking the law into our own hands." What is your answer to this?
