Technological advances have improved our ability to communicate in interdisciplinary and intradisciplinary teams and workplaces. Technology has enabled us to communicate faster and more efficiently.

This discussion has two parts:

Part 1

What pros and cons should be considered when using technology for individual- and team-based communications? Draw on your knowledge from the assigned readings, research on the Internet and in the Capella library, and your own experience, describe the use of communication technologies in interdisciplinary teams to produce positive working relationships and to optimize patient outcomes.

Part 2

One of the most common challenges in health care communication occurs when there are transitions from one care provider to another. After reading the articles on communication and teamwork, describe how SBAR (situation, background, assessment, recommendation) enhances communication in the health care team to improve patient safety and outcomes.
