Scenario 2: Rosa is a 51-year old Hispanic female, a recent immigrant from Mexico living with her distant relatives in El Paso, Texas. She has little contact with her primary family members, who are all in Mexico. She does seasonal manual labor, hand-harvesting crops. She has major financial hardship and claims she barely survives on her pay. She has no history of smoking, alcohol, or other drug use. She appears frail and malnourished. She is 5’5” tall and weighs 100 pounds. Over the past 2 years, she has developed chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. Her level of social support is low, because she has little contact with her family in Mexico. She reports being close to several female co-workers. She sees her life as stressful and has minimal access to health care providers.
