Philosophy- Kant

In an essay titled, "On a Supposed Right to Lie from Philanthropy," Kant argues that one cannot morally lie even if the lie is told with the intention of saving the life of another person.  How does Kant justify his rigid position on lying?  What kind of Kantian solution can you offer to moral dilemmas like hiding a Jewish family from inquiring Nazis or a friend of yours from a determined murderer?
