Explanations should explain the

main ideas and arguments.

Explanations should not be summaries

of the facts in an article or case.

Explanations should be in your own

words.

Explanations should not be copied

from the textbook or any other source.

If you use a source, use quotes and

cite the source.  If you quote from the

textbook, put the page number in

parentheses [e.g., (3) if the quote is

from page 3 of the textbook.].

Avoid paraphrasing from the textbook

or any other source.  Paraphrasing is

not using your own words.

Expressing your opinion is just fine and

often important.  But opinions will not

be graded.

You must defend your opinions with

arguments.  Your arguments will be

evaluated, not your opinions.
