SORT OF FREE TOPIC. In FIVE minutes you will convince us to listen to/buy the CD/download the music (or any other call to action) of your favorite band or artist. It must be a clearly articulated informed position on your chosen musician (s) and which you will support with the latest news about your band or artist. Sources would mainly involve experts, not discussion forums, blogs, etc. If biographical information is relevant to the music, then do offer it and contextualize it. Do not give us encyclopedia entries. Like the previous speech, you will research and prepare the speech, i.e. you will write it down completely and you will include a bibliography with at least 5 sources, but you will not use your paper when delivering. You must also pick out 4 tracks/songs of this artist/band and play them to us, for about 15-30 seconds (included in your speech time) each. Play them any time BEFORE your conclusion and play them when you are talking about them –but not OVER THEM. In other words, do not talk about them at the beginning of the speech and play them at the end; if you do this, we won’t know which is which; we will have forgotten them. Also: Do not speak OVER the track – we won’t be able to listen to the music OR hear your explanation! You will select them based on criteria you will explain to us (breakthrough work, most popular song, first hit, etc.) The tracks are supporting information/evidence; they are NOT your reasons. Submit a hard copy with a speech process log and an MLA-formatted bibliography with a minimum of 5 sources.
