Personal Experience Paper

Write a 1,050- to 1,750-word paper that analyzes your own culture’s historical experiences with assimilation and other cultural groups. Address the following items in your paper:

• Identify your own ethnic group. (MUST write for a Caucasian)
• Describe how your group has assimilated and/or interacted with other ethnic groups; cite concepts, theories, or historical examples that have been discussed in the textbook and in class. You may want to consider, for example:
  • Are you from a minority or majority group? Has your group experienced discrimination or prejudice? How?
  • How would you characterize the way in which your group has assimilated or interacted with other cultures?
  • Which theory of assimilation best explains how your group assimilated?
  • How does your group’s history compare to that of another ethnic group?
• Identify and describe at least one contemporary challenge related to the status of your ethnic group.
• Discuss how close your own experiences are to those described in the textbook.

Cite at least two scholarly sources other than your textbook
