Answer about 10 questions and review a rough draft for (2) 800 word essays.

Read your peer’s paper and answer the guided questions, then suggest ways to improve at least 3 criteria and compliment 3 criteria. Bolded information in the chart below are directions for highlighting or commenting directly onto your peer’s draft – you will need to upload both this peer review chart and the peer’s paper to the discussion board. Then, answer the questions after the chart.

Criteria

Guided Questions

Suggest ways for the writer to strengthen the criteria or compliment the writer on the criteria (you need to compliment at least 3 criteria and add suggestions for 3)

Thesis statement

Does the thesis statement argue whether or not the article is effective?

Does the thesis statement include a list of support (the “road amp” or preview)?

Paragraph organization

Underline the topic sentence and concluding sentence of each body paragraph. If there are any missing, make note here:

Do the topic sentences properly introduce the specific topic?

Paper organization

Does the introduction clearly introduce which article the writer is analyzing? Does it include the author’s name and necessary background information?

Does the conclusion stay focused on the effectiveness of the article?

Are there are least 3 body paragraphs? Are they in a logical order?

Analysis

Does the paper focus on analyzing and not just summarizing the article? In other words, does the writer include discussion of purpose, audience, word choice, tone, pathos, ethos, logos, or other elements?

Development

Does the writer include textual evidence? Does the writer fully develop all body paragraphs by including evidence and explaining how each analyzed element effects the effectiveness of the article?

Focus/Unity/Flow

Does the writer use a consistent tone and word choice?

Does the paper flow? Mark any awkward areas.

Format

Using bold font (or the add comment feature), note any issues with format. Make sure to add a note for any missing in-text citations or works cited entries.

Academic Language

Use the highlight tool to highlight (in blue) all casual language (including first and second person pronouns).

Grammar

Use the highlight tool to highlight (in yellow) all possible grammar issues. This can include areas that are awkward or confusing. Even if you don’t know exactly what’s wrong or how to fix it, if it might be an issue, highlight it!

Length

Add a note if the paper doesn’t meet the length requirement, and make suggestions for possible places/way to expand.

1.     What is the best thing about the paper? (This can be, but doesn’t have to be, a rubric criteria)

2.     If the writer only changes one thing before turning in the final draft, what should that one thing be?
