Part A: Examine the quality of Odysseus’ leadership. As a first step, reflect on your definition of leadership. Are some people born leaders while the rest of us are destined to be followers? Conversely, is it possible for most everyone to acquire leadership skills through study and practice? What qualities do you associate with leadership? Authority? The ability to compromise? To resolve conflict collaboratively? Quick thinking and acting or careful reflection and deliberative decision making? Physical strength? Having strong moral and ethical convictions? Adaptability and flexibility? Having sole control of the situation and a willingness to command others? Sharing power and responsibility by forging partnerships and using a teamwork approach? Write your definition of leadership in one full paragraph.

Part B: Next, review sections of The Odyssey and pick two passages that give a lot of detail about Odysseus’ leadership style. In two paragraphs, one for each passage that you selected, develop an analysis of the nature of Odysseus’ leadership.

Part C: Put together in one document all the material that you developed in Part A and B. Remember that your claims in all parts of the assignment should be substantiated by excerpts from appropriate sources (scholarly research and/or literary texts). Quotes, paraphrases, and summaries used in the assignment should be arranged according to APA rules of style, and in-text and reference citations should be provided, also formatted in APA style. Quoted material should not exceed 25% of the post. Submit the final document in the Discussion Area.
