I think it took so long for them to reach a deliberation because many of them were completely stubborn and unwilling to consider others' opinions and put aside their own biases to analyze pure facts. The combination of that along with an amalgam of childish scuffles, unwarranted ad hominem and other fallacious arguments, and general off-topic chatter led to a much more time-consuming conclusion. The fact that they were putting a lot more time into a decision whose verdict would impact someone's life is good, albeit worrisome and upsetting to Juror 7 considering his plans to watch the ball game. But he can deal.
