Assume your work for a sports property.  Write a memo to your boss with a proposal to increase the property's fan base.

You should start with a situation analysis based on a thorough search from (sportsbusiness journal) SBJ archives. 

Set clear goals for your proposal, both marketing goals and business goals.  You'll need to establish some sense of priorities to guide resources allocated to the effort, and convince readers that it's worth doing. 

Suggest goal achievement strategies, which should include a marketing strategy: your most important targets and positioning (i.e., who you want to talk to, and what you want to say).

Lastly, set priorities for your promotion mix with specific examples (e.g., advertising, PR, promotions, personal selling, direct marketing).

I will grade papers based on: (1) rigor, so make sure you do your homework on this; (2) originality, which is at a premium in the industry; and (3) significance.  Otherwise, figure it out.
