Position Paper and Adobe Connect Presentation

The purpose of the health care position paper is to practice problem-solving a healthcare issue in a manner similar to that of an executive team in the workplace. As a health care administrator or leader, you will experience events that require you to collaborate with your peers, brainstorm solutions, and take action to address or solve issues or problems affecting your organization. Inevitably, you will encounter workplace colleagues with differing opinions. Negotiating prompt, viable solutions based upon facts, evidence, and context is an important skill for health care leaders.

You have been preparing for your health care position paper since Unit 2. At this point in the course, you have practiced using Adobe Connect, established both positions on your issue, completed your research, and constructed your presentation.

Requirements for this Assignment

For this assignment:

• Prepare a position paper in the form of an outline.
• Pre-record a presentation of your position paper in Adobe Connect. Be sure to upload your PowerPoint presentation into the Adobe Connect room before starting your recording session.
• When recording your presentation, take the role of presenting to an "executive team." Your instructor and colleagues will take the roles of the executive team when they are evaluating your presentation.
• Complete the self-evaluation found in the Resources.
• Post the URL for your recording in the Unit 6 discussion area.

IMPORTANT: TO OBTAIN CREDIT FOR THIS UNIT, YOU MUST POST THE URL AS A HYPERLINK SO COLLEAGUES CAN "CLICK AND VIEW" YOUR PRE-RECORDED PRESENTATION IN BOTH THE SECOND DISCUSSION FOR PEER FEEDBACK, AS WELL AS IN THE UNIT 6 ASSIGNMENT AREA FOR YOUR INSTRUCTOR'S FEEDBACK.

Position Paper and Presentation Requirements

For your position paper and Adobe Connect presentation, you will be expected to address the following objectives:

• Analyze a health care issue for its relationship to health care law and health industry practices within an employment setting.
• Identify the regulatory and legal principles and concepts of a health care issue that affect its compliance with regulatory bodies.
• Analyze the complexities of health care law applied to the specific health care issue.
• Integrate all applicable laws, regulatory requirements, compliance metrics, case precedents, industry standards, best practices, and so on for ongoing organizational improvement. Recommend a systems-based approach for a CEO based upon your organizational improvement plan.
• Use correct grammar—avoid cliché, ambiguous terminology, and slang—in both your verbal and written presentation.
• Complete a self-evaluation form (see the Resources) and submit it to your instructor along with your position paper.

The position paper should take the form of an outline:

• Clearly and precisely state the issue; Identify the setting in which the issue is occurring (hospital, clinic, group practice, et cetera).
• Construct a position statement for the affirmative or "pro" side of the issue.
• Construct a position statement for the negative or "con" side of the issue.
• Identify all applicable laws, regulations, case precedents, industry standards, best practices, research, and so on, and provide APA formatted references.
• Complete the preformatted table that includes position statements, evidence in support for each side of the issue, a response to the opposite side of the issue, a conclusion for each side which includes rationale (laws, regulations, case precedent, industry standards, et cetera), AND a final recommendation for the executive team based upon your evaluation of both sides of the issue.

How Your Presentation Will Be Graded

Exemplary performance will include professionalism, credibility of sources, positions that are built upon logical synthesis of research evidence, and adherence to format and time constraints. You are also required to submit a self-evaluation with your assignment. Review the Position Paper and Adobe Connect Presentation Scoring Guide, so you are aware of the evaluation and reflection criteria that you will be using.
