Uber vs. Taxi, is it a fair competition?
taxi:
taxicab industry is traditionally among the most corrupt sectors in the US local governments, awarding licenses is sometimes very hard.
For example:
In Key West Florida “Taxi companies convinced the city to cap numbers [of licensee] 20 year ago,” Key West Licensing official Carolyn Walker said.
-That’s mean if you want to get into a cap business, you have to beg an existing cab driver to turn over his license.
Just for the right to get what everyone agrees is a terrible job.
Uber:
When Uber came a long, it’s seemed like it was almost too good to be true and that’s for settling by the way.
Uber says:
Instead of going through all that. You get a ride from a random dude who happen to be passing by.
-Uber provide a smartphone app that lets you see who in your vicinity has an empty back seat
-you tap a button they can pick you up within minutes.
-payments is quietly sucked out your credit card and tours are pleased to see that their diver is probably a local hipster.
That’s another of the world’s problems solved by technology
If you want to be a taxi driver in New York you have to attend 6 hours of special driving classes, 24 hours of a separate taxi driver class. and the vehicles have to be inspected.
