1.  Discuss whether you think OSHA’s air contaminant standards are important, and why. Do you think they are adequate to protect employees in the workplace from airborne contaminant hazards? Explain.

2.  OSHA’s permissible exposure limits tables in OSHA Standard 1910.1000 reflect a set of consensus standards that were in existence in 1969. OSHA tried to update them in the late 1980s and early 1990s to a more recent version but lost the battle in court following promulgation of the final rule. What do you think about the fact that OSHA can only protect you and your family members from exposure to air contaminants based on obsolete science (science from early last century)? The existing recommendations from NIOSH and ACGIH are now as much as 100 times lower on some contaminants, but OSHA cannot enforce NIOSH or ACGIH levels. What should OSHA do?
