Reflective journal writing provides students with a theoretically-sound, pragmatic format for process thinking and critical reflection on professional practice and development. It is part of the ongoing process of improving our ability to reflect critically on practice in the field of TESOL (specifically related to sociolinguistics) as well as on one’s own socialization. The reflective journal exercise has a specific sequence that students should follow (guidelines/template provided in class). Students will be expected to submit two reflective journals during the semester.

First journal topic: What is grammar? - Historical perspective: The grammar debate - Communicative grammar teaching - Deductive vs. inductive teaching

second journal topic: to be - Expressing present time - Expressing past time 1
