■YOU & YOUR CLIENT:
You are the PR Coordinator for Political Management, Inc., of 1230 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY, 10020. Your duties for this New York-based political campaign management organization includes representing top level politicians and promoting their campaigns.
Today, you have been assigned a presidential candidate –(TBD) Democrat Hillary Clinton, Socialist Bernier Sanders, Republican Donald Trump or Libertarian Party Gary Johnson - as your client.
You are specifically handling only Television program bookings as the candidates continue their campaign heading to the party’s convention and nomination.
Your job is to positively and publically promote his/her candidacy to an appropriate selected TV progam.
Specifically, you have been assigned to arrange an interview at an appropriate television program – and you will send a pitch letter to your selected program.
■TO DO:
- Research and access links and materials that will provide you with information necessary to include in your pitch letter that:
· Pertains to your client
· Pertains to her/his efforts to obtain the respective party’s nomination for President of the United States.
- Research and gather information/materials for inclusion in your letter.
- Research and select a national television program that you feel would be appropriate for your client to appear on to discuss and answer questions from the host(s). (Must be an actual program. You will need to determine the network, program name, address and host.)
- Write & Submit:
-A well-thought out, up-beat & appropriate one-page pitch - to pitch your client to your selected show and host
- A one-page professionally quality letter that will include the H I S Body CC S elements expected of a business letter.
- PURPOSE: To have that program contact you for the purpose of having the candidate appear on the program.
■CONSIDERATIONS:
a. Come up with an actual contact person/host name from an appropriate and relevant TV program.
b. That network, host’s name, name of show and address MUST be included in the letter. (Inside Address)
c. Letter should be a minimum of four-five well thought out graphs; 11 or 12 pt. font; 1.5 or 1. spacing
d. One page. DO NOT develop a company letterhead (logo, slogan, etc.) for your company However….
YOUR LETTER MUST INCUDE THE EXPECTED SEVEN (7) LETTER ELEMENTS:
Heading, Inside Address, Salutation, BODY, Comp. Close &
Signature & Title
e. Use a professional, positive and upbeat tone and style
f. Take into account newsworthiness angles, as well as timeliness and other considerations in “pitching” your client. Should be an upbeat, positive pitch
g. Keep in mind the line between hype and news
h. Maintain your focus: This is about your Client and HIS/HER CANDIDACY...And your desire to have your client appear on your selected program
i. This is not a news release! Not simply a list of items about your candidate.
j. Indicate (in your letter) WHY you believe your candidate would be a good choice to be interviewed by the show’s host
■ RESEARCH & BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
You should conduct Internet research for readily available information and numerous sources about your selected candidate.
All information pertaining to your client must be accurate and true.
