Learning from the Past

Past events have shown us that we are not impervious to terrorist attack or natural disasters. There have been many times in history that we have failed in vigilance and taken a lackadaisical approach.

Tasks:

• Identify a previous disaster and describe the events that led to that disaster. The scale of the disaster (e.g., the lives lost) does not matter, but focus on the failures and successes of the system in assessing risk.
• Concentrate on the agencies that should have been involved and critique their actions. At this point, you are not required to fully identify the steps of risk assessment, but you should be able to identify agencies and whether they followed their policies, strategies, and structures.

Note: The assignment should be 2–3 pages in length and double-spaced, and the font size should be 12 point. In addition to the 2–3-page assignment, be sure to include a references page in APA format.
