Hello,
after reading the chapter.
In your own words, describe what Thompson means by "functional integrity" and "resource sufficiency" -- the two paradigms he proposes for practically conceptualizing sustainability. Then, explain what Thompson means by "non-substantive sustainability," and how it falls within the dichotomy of empirical (practical) and normative (value based) considerations.

Finally, consider Thompson's conclusion as to the role of "non-substantive sustainability" within the functionality of sustainability as a movement. Do you agree with his conclusion? What is the role of philosophical arguments, such as those presented in this text, in our understanding of sustainability?

Please respond with at least two well-developed paragraphs (200-300 words)
