My life and hard times
"The Night the Bed Fell" by American humorist James Thurber is the first chapter in his autobiography, My Life and Hard Times. It is a good example of a personal narrative. Though he does spend some time building his back story (as when he discusses his quirky Aunts), he has a clear chronological progression in his story.
This week in your discussion post, try to answer the following questions:
- What is Thurber's main idea or point (i.e. what is his Thesis)? What point is he trying to make by telling us this story?
- What evidence or events in the story support this main idea? Try to think of at least three examples.
- Can you relate to Thurber's family in any way? How so?
- What questions do you have?
Your first post should be a well developed paragraph which answers all of the above questions, as well as asks some of your own.
