Music Comparison Project

Students will choose two pieces of music and will compare and contrast the elements of the pieces.

Both pieces should have an instrumental and lyric component. Each piece must be less than four minutes in length. Each piece should be from a different genre or style of music. One must have been recorded before 1970 and the other must have been recorded after 2000. Students will give a 3 to 5  minute presentation, in which they will play part of both pieces of music and compare and contrast their musical selections. A discussion question must be a part of this presentation. A 2-page paper will be written on the pieces, consisting of a half page analysis for each song and a one-page comparison of the two works.
