One of the themes discussed in this module's readings was the Industrial Revolution and the emergence of new materials and its antithesis, the Arts and Crafts Movement and its sister style, Art Nouveau.

Contrast the characteristics of the architecture that was a result of the Industrial Revolution, for example, the Eiffel Tower and the Crystal Palace, with the elements characteristic of the buildings of the Arts and Crafts movement.

How do you think the difference of materials and production affected the end result—i.e., the completed building? What feelings do each form of architecture mean to evoke? Both movements were modern; one in a revolutionary way, the other in a traditional way. Please explain how.
