System Integration (explain how this system integrates into the current systems in the organization)

·         Describe current major systems that will need to interact with this system

·         Address any compatibility issues with current major systems

·         Explore and report on various decision-making support models considered or currently used

·         Explain the advantages as well as any limitation of data used in the decision-making models of this organization

·         Explore different implementation processes and comment on a preferred method for implementing your process

·         Reveal any security issues and the steps taken to alleviate any concerns

·         At least four of the required system integration issues were presented in the paper.

·         At least three of the required system integration issues were presented in the paper.

Feasibility

·         Analyze and explain what went into the hardware needs and final selections

·         Analyze and explain what went into the software needs and final selections

·         Demonstrate an understanding of the system maintenance (i.e. repair, upgrades, obsolescence, and technology changes)

·         Develop a final cost analysis for the project (includes both upfront costs and total cost of ownership)

·         Comment on the organizational culture related to technology changes and the successes of lack thereof of previous technology changes

System Build Project

For this project, you will design a system for the organization of your choosing.  This could be for a current or former employer or some fictitious organization.  The system you design might be data storage, telecommunications, e-commerce, accounting information, manufacturing process system, inventory management, or some other system approved by your instructor.  You will discover (or create, if you choose a fictional organization) and explain the main systems in place, discuss the integration, and explain how the data collected by these systems helps the organization make decisions and carry out the strategic plan.  This project must meet the written communication skills at a Bachelor level competency as described in the Writing Across the Curriculum Initiative.

Specific parts of the paper should include:

  • Determine the System (Needs Analysis)
    • Problem to solve
    • Determine specific issue
    • What part can technology solve
    • Get input from creators and users
    • How solving this problem supports the organization's mission
  • Integration of system into current organization system
    • Describe current major systems
    • Discuss compatibility of the new system with current systems
    • Explore various decision-making support models
    • Evaluate the advantages and limitations of data in DSS
    • Explore different implementation processes
    • Define the process chosen
    • Explore security issues for this system
  • Feasibility
    • Hardware determinants (types, capacity, speed, processing power)
    • Software determinants (types, applications, compatibility, integration)
    • maintenance and upgrade, obsolescence issues, future changes in technology
    • Cost analysis (total upfront cost, total cost of ownership)
    • Organizational culture and technology changes
  • Measurement
    • Critical success factors (how often it will be monitored, how we will know it is successful, creator and/or user of the data/system input)
    • Efficiency measurement (how has it increased or not increased efficiency)
    • Cost measurement (save costs, ROI on initial outlay)

Deliverable: the completed System Build Project, addressing all the parts listed above, will be due Wednesday of Seminar 5, and is worth 150 points.
