MEDIA REACTION PAPER

·         Prepare a 1,000 to 1,500-word Media Reaction Paper reviewing a current television show, news broadcast, or motion picture that discusses or illustrates the portrayal of diverse or immigrant groups in the media.  You will be asked to center your analysis around a worksheet I will provide in the Course Materials Forum.  In order to be considered current, your selected media should be from approximately the past 10 years.  If you have any questions about the appropriateness of your source, please ask me so beforehand. 

Your Media Reaction paper will address the following topics:

o    Did the article, television show, or motion picture attempt to address the diversity represented in the American landscape?  If so, how did they attempt this portrayal?

o    To what extent do you feel your selected media relied on stereotypes when depicting certain groups?  Were these stereotypes more pronounced with immigrant groups than other groups depicted in the film or show?

o    Assess whether or not you believe the selected broadcast, television show, or motion picture fostered a better understanding of diversity, multiculturalism, or immigrant groups. Justify your answer.
