Media Essay - Women Studies

This assignment enables you to move beyond traditional classroom discussion- and essay-writing to discuss media exposure in a paper of personal and social significance. While we are exposed to varying forms of media each day, this project focuses on one example of media that is of personal significant, impact, or curiosity. Creativity, experimentation, collaboration, and transgression are all central to the field of women's studies and to feminist pedagogy. It is important to apply these learned skills when analyzing media.

Please do the following:

1. Choose a specific form of media (Social Media, Film, Music, etc) you believe would prove useful in a discussion in a women's studies course.
2. Analyze this form of media by utilizing the material in your textbook and the course modules for support (use quotes!), make explicit connections between your chosen form of media and women's studies. Be sure to cite your sources.
3. Search for outside scholarly sources (such as journals and books) to support and back up your analysis.

Important: Essay length is 1,000 to 1,500 words (3 to 5 pages). Use at least 2 outside sources, but base your essay primarily on the course materials. Writing mechanicss, spelling, grammar, syntax, citation formatting all are crucial to your ability to communicate clearly and thus will greatly affect your grade. Please use Modern Language Association (MLA) or APA style for citations.
